About Darrick
Darrick grew up in Stone Mountain, Georgia and attended the University of Georgia, where he majored in Economics. After graduating in 1998, he spent two years with John Hancock Financial in Atlanta before leaving to start his own venture.
In 2001, Darrick launched what would eventually become LTC Tree. In the early 2000s — when the internet was still young and video conferencing was years away from being commonplace — he saw an opportunity to combine technology with insurance sales. He founded LTC Tree as one of the first companies to let consumers shop the entire long term care insurance market online without ever having to meet an agent in person. While LTC Tree wasn't the first fintech company, it was one of the early grassroots organizations using technology to improve the customer experience.
In 2005, LTC Tree merged with ValueTech — a technology company co-president Drew Nichols had founded a decade earlier, in 1995 in North Atlanta, Georgia, as one of the first web-hosting companies in the United States. Drew, a graduate of Clemson University in Economics and Finance, had spent the late 1990s and early 2000s building ValueTech into a thriving business before the two cousins brought their companies together. The merger transformed LTC Tree into a leading long term care insurance website, pioneered our patented virtual long term care insurance buying process, and has since helped over 100,000 families protect their financial futures. Darrick and Drew are first cousins who grew up together like brothers — a foundation of trust that continues to anchor the business today.
LTC Tree has since become the nation's number one virtual long term care insurance agency.
