Celebrating Valentine’s Day with Seniors

comment : 0

In honor of the quickly approaching Valentines Day we wanted to spread some fun ideas for your family as well as any aging seniors in your life to participate in. These activities are fun for the whole family and can be used to boost morale within resident nursing homes this year as well. Try any of these fun activities this February 14th, 2020;

  1. Remember that love song?

Share in on pleasant memories with the whole fam and turn it into a fun game for all. Play different love songs from each decade and have everyone name each song they know. The individual with the most correct answers, wins! This is a great memory game to exercise the brain and can also trigger positive memories for all.

2. Poetry workshop

Have everyone write a short poem or haiku and read aloud if they would like to. Have everyone vote on their favorite haiku, winner gets a fun prize. This is a great way to have senior express themselves and showcase their creativity while exercising the brain.

3. Coloring Table

Coloring is a great relaxation tool for seniors and really anybody at all! Prepare a table full of paints, markers, prints, and paper. Let everyone color or decorate their favorite valentines day cards. Coloring is a fun and inexpensive activity that the whole family or residents home can all participate in as a group activity.

4. Movie Night

Host a movie night featuring your all-time favorite films about love. Make it a rom-com and set up a movie snack station for an added bonus. This is a great way to unwind and spend some time relaxing with those around you. Movies are fun and can even help patients with Dementia exercise their memory.

5. Nature walk

This Valentine’s day may be the best excuse for the family or all residents to take a walk through nature together. Gear up in pink if you’re feeling extra festive and take a walk down your favorite path. You can even pack some lunches and have a nice outdoor picnic for all.

Whatever activity you choose to participate in this Valentine’s Day have fun with it! Remember that Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be just for couples. It can be a fun day to show some love to the whole family and especially the aging seniors in your life.
