Senior Citizens across the world participated in a new study from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. The study and research were designed to find out which seniors are aging the best and staying healthy as they age.

The study had over 190 countries that were surveyed on how much each population suffered from age related diseases and disabilities. Each country was given an overall score which is known as DALY-disability adjusted life years-which measures the loss of healthy life with aging. They also researched the different types of diseases and disabilities that effect seniors at the age of 65.

Here are the Top 5 countries that are aging the best:

  1. Switzerland
  2. Singapore
  3. South Korea
  4. Japan
  5. Italy

Senior citizens in Switzerland and Singapore had the best DALY score. The study shows that they are the healthiest in the world. They are putting off diseases at a later age than expected in other countries. In South Korea and Japan senior citizens also have delays on aging. There are even some parts of these countries that have “Blue Zones” which are zones where people are living past 100 years old. Italy is a lot like Switzerland. They are well known for their Mediterranean diets and slow food not fast foods.
